more stupid fanfic rambling
Sep. 27th, 2009 12:28 amtrying to think of the main plot device for this fic is DRIVING ME INSAAAANE
so, the only two experiments i can think of for a rewrite of the events of the pain in the heart that could possibly involve and explosion and exclude zach's involvement on the other case are: homemade blacklights and idk boiling chemicals or smth.
BLACKLIGHTS: in the original, after zach goes explody, brennan discovers that the DNA in the tissue sample they'd taken for DNA ID had been damaged by exposure to UV light (why that wasn't discovered when they did the DNA testing, IDK it's tv), which is standard lab procedure for treatment of bones before they're placed in storage -- this leads them to start searching the bone storage for other misplaced bones that gormogon's been slipping into limbo. in the original, zach was the one who performed this action, since he had access to the proper equipment. i'm pretty sure that anyone in the jeffersonian could get access to limbo, though, since it's unsecured and not monitored by cameras, so this fits in with my "it was someone in the authentications department" idea. presumably, though, people who don't work in the medico-legal lab wouldn't have access to the UV lights used to treat the bones, so either gormogon or his apprentice would have to build a home-modified blacklight to do treatment to stick the bones in storage so that they don't stand out, as the process lightens the color of the bone (iiiidk it really didn't make sense even in the original?). anyway, the bones were stuck in various drawers in limbo to hide skeletons, keep them from getting discovered. ASSUMING that in the XI AU rewrite of events, they discover the DNA damage, when, i dunno, they take DNA samples for testing, zach and hodgins could try to create a home-modified blacklight that would give off approximately the right wavelength to do the amount of DNA damage in the tissue. (what this proves? I HAVE NO FUCKING CLUE I JUST NEED AN EXPLOSION SOB idk maybe it proves what resources were available to the master and/or apprentice. not that it'll matter because zach will have blown it up before they get any results out of it) then zach could accidentally explode it, blow things up, and they get the identity of the apprentice by testing for particulates left behind by the water the mandible was boiled in blah blahh basically what hodgins did that proved that the mandible was boiled in his neighborhood. and by tv luck, there's only one employee at the jeffersonian who lives in the neighborhood presented by the test results and VOILA they have their way to get to gormogon.
CHEMICALS AND SHIT: the only other weak-ass idea i had was that the water the mandible was boiled in had something chemical added to it and they have to BOIL CHEMICALS to figure out what it was which results in accidental explosions yey. the apprentice ID would be the same as in the above idea, after they've isolated the chemical additive in the water.
idk the homemade exploding blacklight idea is more solid OH GOD REWRITING MASSIVELY IMPORTANT EVENTS IN CANON GETS SO DIFFICULT
augh my brain hurts
